Alpacas are shorn without harm once a year, producing and average of five to ten pounds of fiber. Alpaca fiber can be as soft as cashmere and is warmer and lighter than wool. It comes in 22 natural colors, which can be blended and dyed. Alpaca fiber has the luster of silk and is lanolin-free. It is spun into yarn to be used for sumptuous fiber products including hats, scarves, sweaters, socks, etc. Alpaca fiber is also used in the production of wonderfully soft and warm blankets and outerwear. Spinners, weavers, knitters and other fiber artists enjoy the outstanding qualities that alpaca fiber offers.

Roderigo means "notable leader," and that's what we are hoping for in this guy's future. Multiple award winning herdsire Riddick from Spruce Ridge Farm and our girl Ginger Spice have produced a great cria. Rich mahogany in color, he is unlike any other alpaca in our pasture. With his heavy "eyebrows," Roderigo gives a serious appearance, but he is just the opposite. Frisky and friendly, he loves to charge through groups of alpacas looking for other crias to romp with. Roderigo is developing nicely, and we are excited about his potential.
